Barkston Gardens Hotel London

When staying in Earls Court, an area founded at the beginning of the last millennium, guest might be interested in staying in a place with at least some comparable history. The Barkston Gardens Hotel provides this. Originally a terraced Victorian house, it was built in the nineteenth century. The converted brick house is just 200 yards from the Earls Court Underground Station. For those looking to walk, the Kensington museums and Hyde Park are a twenty minute stroll through astounding neighborhoods, and the Olympia Exhibition Center, along with Earl’s Court I and II, are even closer. The hotel is a non-smoking building.

The lobby has a tiled floor and tall house plants scattered around the plush purple chairs. On the property are three meeting rooms, all outfitted with modern amenities. A restaurant, called Barkston Bistro, is where guests will take their complementary breakfast, although other meals are served there throughout the day. The modest chandeliers keep the charm of the Victorian house, and a full English breakfast is available for a small fee. In addition, there is a lovely pub, Le Rendezvous Bar. Read more »

London Elizabeth Hotel London

In the celebrated West End of London, across the street from the Hyde Park entrance, you’ll find the beautiful renovated Victorian townhouses that are now the London Elizabeth Hotel. Because of it’s historic nature and the fact that the family owning it has tried their best to preserve the character of the townhouses, each room is different, and all are decorated with Victorian home charm. Even better, being situated exactly across the street from the Lancaster Gate Tube Station on the Central Line, the Elizabeth Hotel is both ideally situated for access to all the famous sights of London, and is fantastically easy to find and reach.

Among its many amenities, it offers a friendly and knowledgeable staff that can answer all your questions and will go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. The little bar is decorated like a private club and is open until 1am every night but Sunday, while the Rose Garden Restaurant features seasonal and Country Classic cuisine with herbs grown right in the hotel’s own garden. It serves lunch and dinner, in the pretty Victorian-themed dining room or, weather permitting, of course, out on the Terrace which overlooks the gardens that are open to guests and recommended for a nice ramble. The hotel is family and independently owned, and it shows in the way each room is like a room of a house, each different and each offering little extra touches to make you feel right at home while making each stay at the hotel seem like something new. Also available is a boardroom and a small business center, laundry facilities, daily local papers both in the lobby and delivered to your room, 24 hour front desk, 24 hour room service, concierge services, a multilingual staff, facilities for disabled guests, a luggage storage room, safe deposit boxes at the front desk, tourist information and ticket reservation service, parking facilities for an extra fee, high speed internet access, daily housekeeping services, medical assistance and wake up calls, and, if you are so inclined, babysitting services are available on request.

There are 49 rooms on six floors, which includes a number of small apartments for longer stays and families. All rooms feature private en suite bathrooms and hairdryers, air conditioning, television with cable TV and AM/FM radio, direct dial telephone, a work desk with a lamp, the almost-ubiquitous tea and coffee making facilities so essential to a proper English morning, an in-room safe, an alarm clock and arm chairs for lounging. They are divided into classic and deluxe rooms, with the deluxe ones, of course, being roomier and usually overlooking the quieter garden, rather than the bustling front road. All rooms are lovingly tended and unique. The continental and full English breakfast is served in the breakfast room from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday to Saturday and 7.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. Sunday. You can also have breakfast served in your room. Read more »

Citadines Trafalgar Square Apart’Hotel London

Convenience in a hotel room usually means location, but with their Apart’Hotels Citadines at Trafalgar Square ups the ante by not only providing a great location in the heart of London close to countless tourist and business hot spots, but by also providing what is essentially a temporary residence for travelers who favor autonomy and comfort on their travels.

By this I am referring to the fact that every room in this hotel includes a kitchenette that not only includes standard appliances for any kitchen (oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster) but utensils, glassware, tableware, and cookware. This doubles to give the business or leisure traveler the illusion of actually living in central London for their stay, and it also provides a means of saving money by having the option to prepare one’s own meals for a fraction of what it would cost to dine out at every meal.

Citadines South Kensington Apart’Hotel London

Wouldn’t be nice to go on a trip far away from home but be able to come home every night to a fully functioning residence instead of a hotel room that offers little more than a place to sleep and watch television? In the historic area of South Kensington, the Citadines Apart’-hotel provides just that: A studio or multi-room apartment for short stays with a separate kitchenette that not only includes all the necessary cooking appliances, but glassware, cutlery, and plate-ware as well. For whatever duration your stay, it is actually like getting a taste of living in the city–you get a place to sleep, relax, store and prepare food with no need to go out to eat if the overwhelming number of nearby dining options is just too much to bear.

Along with a cornucopia of eateries, the area of South Kensington is also comprised of numerous points of interests for travelers of all varieties, such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Natural History Museum, Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, and Harrod’s. That’s a lot to take in alone (and really only a fraction of what is in handy distance), but two Circle line underground stations are only a couple blocks away each, on Gloucester and of course the South Kensington station itself, which provide direct access to the rest of London.

Citadines Holborn Covent Garden London

For a hotel stay in central London it can be a challenge to save as much money as you can while staying at the Citadines Holborn in Covent Garden, but still wind up with a clean room in a safe location. The positive impact on your budget by the amenities included will be difficult to ignore. Each of the 192 rooms in this hotel (or “Apart’ Hotel”, as they call it) is as complete as any apartment would be–a kitchenette with dishwasher, electric kettle or coffee maker, glassware, crockery, cutlery, stove with hood, microwave, refrigerator and toaster (!), separate bathroom and toilet with towels and hairdryer, television, high-speed internet, stereo, and every room is air-conditioned.

How do the amenities save money? Easy. Although this area is full of select choices for fine dining, there are also supermarkets for grocery shopping, so if you’re planning a long getaway, rather than funnel so much money eating out, you can prepare romantic dinner with your partner or a fun reflective meal for your family a few times and save enough money for a night at the theatre, or a couple extra stops on a shopping day. The shopping abounds in this part of London, by the way. Read more »

Chrysos Hotel London

From the moment you first see the elegantly austere edifice of the Chrysos Hotel, which overlooks a beautiful yard of lush greenery, and a variety of nearby gardens whose fragrances waft and invigorate your senses with every gentle breeze, to the moment you are greeted by a friendly staff in its dignified reception room, you will be tickled with delight that you have found such a hotel to spend your nights in comfort and beauty at an affordable price during your trip to London.

For a modest rate, any of a large variety of its 60 rooms will welcome you into comfort and coziness, and not “cozy” in the usual, thinly-veiled “tiny” sense of the word. By London hotel standards, the rooms are actually spacious, complete with basic amenities that any traveler deserves anywhere: cable television, wireless internet, writing desk, comfortable mattresses, and en suite facilities. The rest of the hotel beyond the rooms consistently provides comforting surroundings and excellent hospitality. Also, the price of a room not only includes tax but a morning meal in the pleasant atmosphere of the breakfast room, of which is offered two options: continental and full English breakfast. Either choice provides a more than adequate amount of sustenance, sure to keep you going for a day of business (one floor is especially for business travelers) or sightseeing.

Central House Hotel London

Traveling on a budget can welcome the possibility of some pretty adverse conditions, and much of the time a the hotel can make or break a vacation. The essential criteria for choosing an affordable hotel (or any hotel, or that matter) are convenience, cleanliness, safety, and obviously, price. Located in the heart of Westminster, the Central House Hotel provides exactly that–it is very clean, affordable, and has a safe and convenient location.

The basic accommodations of the rooms–which are all ensuite and nonsmoking–include phone, tea and coffee-making facilities, television, hair dryer, fan, and wireless internet. If you didn’t bring your laptop there is a computer with internet connection in the reception lounge. Though a breakfast is served continental-style in the breakfast room every morning, there is a café right around the corner from this Georgian terrace hotel that serves a massive hot breakfast for right around £7.00. A huge advantage this hotel has over its competitors is the fact that it has elevators–a benefit that is surprisingly absent from many of the more affordable lodgings in London.
